Dear Members,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you were all able to enjoy a restful summer break. As the holidays come to an end and we return to our daily routines, I would especially like to wish a good and confident start to the new school year to all our children with cochlear implants, together with their families and teachers. A smooth return to the classroom, with the right support in place, matters enormously — and it remains one of the reasons our work is so important.
As we look ahead, there are two occasions where I very much hope to meet many of you in person.
First, in Berlin: the German hearing-loss community will celebrate 125 years of the hard-ofhearing movement (“125 Jahre Schwerhörigenbewegung”) during an action week from 17 to 20 September, under the fitting motto “Gemeinsam besser hören” – Better hearing, together. It is a remarkable milestone, and a wonderful reminder of how much can be achieved when people with hearing loss stand together. I hope to be there, and it would be a great pleasure to see some of you as well.
Second, in Brussels: EURO-CIU will once again take part in the CIICA Conference, CI Advocacy in Action 2026, on 22 and 23 October. As in previous years, these two days promise inspiring presentations, valuable exchange, and — above all — the shared advocacy that strengthens the voice of cochlear implant users across Europe and beyond.
I warmly encourage you to join us in Brussels and to add your voice to the network.
Both events remind us of the same truth: we are strongest when we act together. I look forward to meeting you in Berlin, in Brussels, or wherever our shared commitment brings us.

Dear members and friends of EURO-CIU,
It is with great pleasure that I look back on our recent workshop and General Assembly in Bucharest. The event was a great success and once again demonstrated the strength and vitality of our community.
My sincere thanks go to our hosts, the Asculta Viata Asociatia, who made this gathering possible with remarkable dedication and warm hospitality. They created an excellent environment in which many people could come together, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. I was particularly pleased to see the presence of potential new members who joined us over the weekend and gained valuable insights into our work. In addition to personal exchanges, we also engaged in important discussions about the future of EURO-CIU. These conversations were both meaningful and forward-looking, and we will
continue them together in the months ahead.
There is always much to be done, but by working together and pulling in the same direction, we can achieve a great deal.

Dear Members,
As we begin a new year, I am pleased to share some updates on the activities and priorities ahead of us. One of the most important upcoming events is our EURO CIU Workshop and General Assembly, which will take place this year in Bucharest. I warmly invite all members to join us there. The workshop will once again provide an open space to discuss EURO CIU’s future direction, share ideas, and contribute to shaping the strategic development of our organisation. Your participation and insights are essential, and I sincerely hope to see many of you involved in these important conversations.
Looking back, the past year was truly remarkable for EURO CIU. We celebrated our 30th anniversary with a special jubilee symposium in Istanbul – an inspiring event that honoured three decades of progress, advocacy, and community. We were also present at ESPCI in Hannover, where we exchanged knowledge with experts, professionals, and fellow CI users from across Europe. Additionally, EURO CIU contributed to the conversations at the CIICA Conference in Brussels, which once again highlighted the importance of global collaboration in hearing health.
These events not only strengthened our network but also reminded us how vital our shared engagement is. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you who represented your associations, shared your expertise, and helped raise awareness of the needs of cochlear implant users throughout Europe.
This year, we once again have a full agenda with many exciting activities and opportunities ahead. I look forward to continuing our close cooperation – working together, learning from each other, and driving positive change for our community. EURO CIU thrives on your dedication, and I am confident that together we will achieve a great deal in 2026.
